Understanding and Managing Anxiety Parent Masterclass for ( school aged to 12)

Sep 17, 2022 @ 9:30 am - 12:45 pm

masterclass

Hello there!

Anxiety and fear are part of life; a small amount of stress is not negative, yet the challenges post-pandemic seem to have escalated fear and anxiety.

Therefore, it is not surprising that so many parents find it hard to regulate within the home, often challenging not to let it rule the household. It doesn’t have to be that way.

Join me at this Masterclass to help you face your child’s anxiety with understanding, confidence, and competence!

When you help your child regulate their emotions, they can problem-solve, develop emotional resilience, and have healthy relationships. Remember, self-control/regulation is a better predictor of academic success than IQ or SAT scores.

There will be time to work in small groups and work with in three steps.

Step One

  • How to understand anxiety and what is normal
  • How it affects our thoughts, body responses (physical feelings), and actions (behaviour)
  • Some simple neuroscience, the fight, flight, stress response and the importance of good vagal tone
  • Understanding the importance of interoception

Step Two

  • Ideas on how to talk about anxiety
  • Help you empower your children to have courage and bravery

Step Three

  • Ways to help your child handle anxiety and reduce stress in a new uncertain, fast-paced, ever-changing world.
  • Eliminate the goal of it disappearing to working with it
  • How to parent with mindfulness, presence, and self Compassion (studies show that children of mindfully self-compassionate parents tend to have lower rates of anxiety and depression).
  • Lots of time for questions for your unique situation with an experienced clinician of over 31 years.

About me

I am a mum and a parent. Like you, I’ve experienced all the joys, ups, downs, and frustrations of being a parent and helping my children learn to self-regulate from baby to adulthood.

Additionally, I’ve worked as a clinician for 33 years and 31 years in the NHS. I worked in CAMHS as a Specialist Clinician. I have extensive experience working across the 0-18 age range, offering assessments and interventions for mental health disorders and complex emotional and behavioural difficulties. I offered multi-agency consultations with statutory agencies, and I am also a trained facilitator in two evidence-based parenting courses, the Incredible Years and the Solihull Approach. My workshops integrate all my life experiences.

Who is this for

My Parent workshops specifically target parents and carers with children aged 4-12 years old struggling with anxiety. The workshops are designed for parents to better understand stress in children, and offer evidence-based interventions that parents and carers can use at home.

Is this a face-to-face Masterclass?

Yes, it will have no more than eight parents; this enables parents to feel safe to share, connect, and ask questions.

What is the theoretical basis for the Masterclass?

I have an integrative approach due to multiple pieces of training and experience. However, the workshop is based on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) techniques and focuses on the role of thoughts, feelings, and behaviour in maintaining anxiety in combination with compassion-focused practise. Parents and carers will be supported to develop the confidence and skills needed to help their children manage their fears and worries.

What are your terms and conditions?

Workshops are non-refundable. You may send a substitute delegate. Due to COVID, I reserve the right to cancel the course date. In this case, I will notify you by email as soon as possible and provide you with a full refund. I would also request you do not attend if you have COVID. Bristol Child Parent Support is not liable for travel expenses, childcare, potential loss of income, or associated costs.

I offer bespoke workshop packages to organisations, charities, and parents. I’ve collaborated with Clifton College, STAND NW Charity, Windmill Hill City Farm, Newbury Racecourse Nursery, and other nurseries in Bristol. Do contact me for a conversation on how I can help you.
