I just started to notice that today is much cooler and those hot summer humid nights are nearly behind us. Autumn is just upon us and it’s one of the best times to mirror the natural cycle of nature and think about letting go of some of those unwanted parenting habits. I know you want to be the best you can be.
So try this one action today, so you can become the parent you were always meant to be. This is the picture I took at the weekend at Westonbirt Arboretum. A favourite place of mine. The change in the colour of leaves signals a new transition. It’s time to let go of those unwanted habits and ask ourselves “what do I need to let go off”
- Perhaps it’s that voice that tells us that we have to be the perfect mum or dad.
- Is it time to stop shouting at the children when you know it’s just you have had a stressful day at work?
- Perhaps it’s the ruminating thought that you never have enough time to do anything the way you really want to, so nothing ever feels right.
- Is it nagging and being critical of your partner even though you and they are trying their best?

Whatever these thoughts, imagine you can let them go as the leaves start to fall from the trees and allow the earth to decompose them.
So try this, think of the thought you want to let go, breathe in and say “let” and imagine the leaf falling and as you exhale say “go”. Keep trying and breathing and letting go. You could even have a family meeting after a walk in the woods where you take some leaves and cones and use the season to help your children to decide to let go of a habit.
Be the best parent you can be and try to do one action today to make your child feel safe, secure and loved.
With love Catherine
Let me know how you honour the season of Autumn and letting go…
